Review: Baby Einstein Magic Piano

A musical wooden toy that has become a quick favourite in our house!

Shopping for myself used to make me feel great. Now, I prefer to shop for Lu instead! Last week I was perusing through Indigo, since they have a "buy one, get one 50% off" book and toy sale on. I had previously seen this inexpensive, wind-up toy hippie van, and knew I wanted to grab that.

I love wooden toys, and anything that can encourage help kids learn through play. When I spotted this adorable looking wooden piano, I knew that was coming home with us. We've had it out in the toy room for 5 days now, and I am SO happy with the purchase. Here's why  we love it:

There aren't many pieces. The piano seems very sturdy, and there aren't many things that Lucy can pull off of break when she drops it. The keys don't push down like a typical piano. They are painted onto the wood, and play notes through Hape's "magic touch" technology.

It comes with 3 sheets of easy-to-follow music. This part is way too advanced for Lu right now, but great for an older toddler (or mom who can't read music). They are colour-coded with the keys, encouraging matching, rhythm making, and pattern identification.

There are two different modes which allow your toddler to either get creative and make their own music, or play along with famous melodies (realistically, I am the one doing this while Lu dances).

I didn't know how she'd initially react to it, or if she'd try to actually use it properly, but she LOVES music so I figured I couldn't go wrong. Whether she is carefully pointing out her index fingers to delicately touch the keys, smash the piano with both hands, or play with her butt (a common occurrence - I truly appreciate the creative genius behind it 😉), she has been putting in a lot of time on it every day.
