Yumbox Review

Lu enjoying her Yumbox lunch

I got really excited when it came time to set Lucy up for daycare. Back-to-school shopping has always been fun, and the toddler items are just too adorable. Like, babies with backpacks? C’MON! However, it was hard for me to find a lunchbox that I was really into. Either they had to many compartments, not enough, looked goofy, whatever. You know how picky you can get as a parent. I found some Yumbox bento boxes at Indigo, and loved the idea of them, but they didn’t have a wide selection. They only had the 3-compartment option. Shane works in Toronto, and was walking by Kol Kid, when he spotted some of the exact Yumboxes I wanted, in the window. Why I love it: It was advertised to be leak proof, and in my experience for far, it is! I spoke to somebody in our mama tribe who said hers leaked, so I’ve been vigilant in checking, but I haven’t had to deal with any. It seals tightly, so even things like yogurt and applesauce stay in their own zone. The compartments are labelled into each food group, which is helpful for portion sizing and reminding me to include a variety. There are cute illustrations on the bottom of each (a pretty fish for protein, a fox drinking milk for dairy, etc.) adding to the cute aesthetic that I couldn’t turn down.

There is so much room in the bento box that I can put enough food for Lu’s lunch, plus some snacks. As she grows, it’ll still be big enough for her to take to school. It’s easy to clean. The tray is dishwasher-safe, and I always wash the lid/outer box by hand so that I don’t disrupt the integrity of the leak-proof seal. No cons here. Bottom line: I highly recommend this brand's products, and the 6-compartment box we have in particular. Looks cute, and is totally practical.
